Steampunk Koi (Clockwork Fantasia) by NoraBlansett Steampunk Koi (Clockwork Fantasia) by NoraBlansett
I'm actually so on top of things that this month I finished the Enchanted Visions theme so early that I can't even upload it to the site yet! What's stranger is just two days ago I was beating my head against a wall trying to interpret the theme. Anyway, this is my interpretation: A Clockwork/Steampunk Koi. :D Borg, meet FISH!

9" x 6" Watercolour and ink. As usual, the parts that look grey aren't -- they are metallic gold. I have NO CLUE why metallic gold comes out greyish -- but it always does. The entire fish sparkles.

Thank you very much! I was having a rough time coming up with an idea for the monthly theme and didn't want to do what I know full well everyone else is going to do. Originality is hard to come by these days and you have to dig deep, you know? It's not that everyone is copying each other, it's just after a couple thousand years, we're starting to run out of ideas. I'm sure someone else, somewhere, did a version of a steampunk koi -- but since I haven't seen it, I'm glad to do one. LOL

Can you imagine what art and jewellery design will be like in another two thousand years? I'm afraid that people will be bored. "I saw that same design last week in chartreuse..."

Yes you have right on one side that basics of ideas will always be the same. That's one. Only these basics are always interesting for humans, so I am not feeling so negative.
Another case is design/fashion, in fashion issues, preferences, designs, pattens are coming always again, but also in another way. There was in the 40ties a famous woman designer (dont remember her name, you'll know it), she had extreme new ideas, one day she made an eveningdress for haute couture and she fixed wings from glass on it! So today also all creatures of fantasy/spirit are very in fashion, but again another way (if I remember now the catwalks this time. In photography always the light changes, every angle you take a pic makes a different result, even every cam makes another result and the owner, the photographer uses her different. So I see the future more positive in this issue.
When I was a young girl I was a punk (Sex Pistols, this period), this was 1976. And you see there are still punks, but punk changes in during the decades, it has take a development. If I look here the page 'punk is a religion' this is different from our time, also the impact is different. Spirit, Art and Science are trying to come near the truth, truth will not die. Also jewellery design: if you look in a kaleidoscope there are so many possibilities, even if a chain or crown is designed the same, little bit different stones another dress will be a complete other result. The person, who wears the jewellery gives even the most important impact for it and every human being is differnt. So the same chaine is 7,000.000 time different only through the person who wears it (I know this is perhaps not the idea of the designer, who never wants to make the same or even similiar chain (this is perhaps indeed a problem, but there are also so many stones and minerals and every combination different, I would not be afraid as a jewellery designer too, and if two people make a golden elephant, they make it different, or they are pasting, we come again to another issue). But generally I am not afraid for the art, there are so many people, so many materials, so many ideas in the world .... I see this also from another point of view, I studied philosophy and literature, some main issues are the same, but everything around is changeable. Take only your ideas!! I have never seen such a design before, you will suffer before you create not every creation goes automatically (some yes, some you suffer), but important is only the result, and the result is very original ... 2000 years this is almost too far for me now to consider, even in 10 years is so much change, in 1 year is sooo much change, so nobody knows. If humans survive!!! If, because they are stupid! there will be always art I think, it will not be boring. We should go forward with a good feeling for this case. Copy and paste is a problem no doubt, but I don't think that through copy and paste art dies out, no. But now I must close and dont torture you more with my long writing, I have to eat my breakfast!!
I wish you a wonderful time til next, head up and the ideas will flooding to you like crazy.
Best wishes Michaela

Thank you so much! In person it's pretty interesting because of the golden glow. I couldn't ever decide on a background for it, so it's just going to stay as-is. LOL

Sweet idea! I'd love this if it actually existed for the same reason I love fake plants. I wouldn't have to work to keep them alive! Not very good with that :(

LOL! I have a black thumb... If I walk within ten feet of something green, it seems to wilt right before my eyes. It's really sad actually because my mother was always quite the gardener. She could grow *anything*. She even hybridized her own peppers!

I'm better with fish -- however I have always had a bad habit of accidentally putting breeds of fish together that try to eat each other. I don't have to accidentally kill them, they kill each other.

A steampunk koi would be awesome. I wish I was good with sculpture -- I would try to create this. :XD:

Same with the black thumb! My last effort: I tried to take care of a primrose but it kept dying. I went back to the garden place, asked them about the plant, and they went "oh it's real easy! Those are year round plants, and they're really hard to kill!" "....."

I have goldfish! It was a steep learning curve...I got 10 from one of those carnival things, and I thought it was innocent enough until I read about how to successfully take care of them! Needless to say, there's four left....They're happy four! And they're a little over a year old now. The biggest one's 9 inches and the smallest ones are 4 :). I've encountered everything from fish parasites to dropsy to ammonia poisoning to fish tb! So at least they're at a happy equilibrium now. What kind of fish do you have?

Right now, sadly, I don't have any fish. I have an aquarium I need to set up, but I haven't found an aquarium "table" for my tank yet. When I do see them, they aren't the "right price". I have three chihuahuas that take up most of my time and one of them is expecting in the next month. LOL
